Company Profile

Vidyaranya Education and Development Society (VEDS) is located at Mandur, Bangalore East Taluk of Bangalore Urban District. It is a non-profit making and secular development organization which was started by like-minded people in 1991. It is registered under Karnataka Societies Registration Act 1960 and also with Ministry of Home Affairs and possesses 12A &80G. VEDS has grown to the heights of success by rendering its services to poor women, children, aged, and disabled, etc in Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, and Hassan Districts.

The non-profit organization entered this field with an objective to help downtrodden and needy so that they can also step up with everyone. Our dedication and appetite to work in the interest of society has obtained us the complete trust of many people who really need help to become self dependent avoiding any kind of disability or deformity they are challenged with. Our team of hard working staff not only helps the focus groups but also pays complete personal attention to their each and every need in order to make them stand on their own feet.

Infrastructure

We have strong infrastructure that consists of office buildings, motorbikes, and computers, etc. Our offices and centers are well furnished and have all required facilities. Our organization is supported by 95 full time and 25 part time employees. Our staff includes subject matter specialist in IEDC, Gender Specialist, Social Specialist, Legal Specialist, Documentations, HRD Specialist, Health Specialist, and Education Specialist, etc. Our dedicated team members have around 5 to 8 years experience of this field.

UJJAWALA PROGRAMME

Another milestone of our organization in carrying out the developmental programmes for the target population is execution of a project called “Ujjawala” (means lighting a lamp in one’s life), a centrally sponsored programme in Bangalore Urban district. This project related to combating trafficking. Trafficking is the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse, of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs (UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress &Punish Trafficking in Persons especially women and children).

Ujjawala programme is a novel programme executed by our organization in Bangalore Urban district. This programme is staffed with 8 people includes Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Medical Personnel, Counsellor etc. This programme has been focusing on four components such as Prevention, Rescue, Rehabilitation and Reintegration. Our organization has been concentrating on Community Based approach in arresting trafficking in our operational areas.

Prevention: It is a vital component of this programme. Till now we have promoted 65 Balikiyara and Baliga Sangha in the Schools and community levels and also 30 Community Vigilance Groups (CVGs) in our focused areas. Besides that we have also carried several awareness programmes and distributed 5000 hand outs on trafficking aspects. More over we have also conducted 25 sensitization workshops for the police departments, education departments etc.

Rescue: This is another component of the programme and we have rescued 30 women and 25 children from various situations. These beneficiaries were rescued from various places like bus stand, railway station etc. A few were refereed by SHG members, Anganwadi teachers etc.

Rehabilitation: The women and children who are rescued from various places are provided with shelter in a huge and well equipped building at Medahally, Bangalore Urban District. They are provided with counselling, food, medical treatment etc. Besides that we have also initiated a few vocational trades like tailoring etc for them to build for alternative skill development. Moreover a legal aid being given to the inmates of our P&R Home.

Re-integration: The core element of this intervention is re-integration of the beneficiaries. Till now we have reintegrated 25 people with their families. We have also do the follow up of these people even after the reintegration.
